Glossary
Every term Eatin POS uses, in plain language — including the few that mean something specific here.
Items and menu
Raw item — an ingredient you buy and hold but never sell on its own: chicken, flour, oil.
Inventory item — something bought and sold untouched, like a bottled drink. Holds stock, appears at the till.
Menu item — a dish you make and sell, defined by a recipe of raw items.
Deal — a bundle of menu and inventory items sold at one price.
Recipe — the list of components one unit of a dish consumes. It drives cost and stock.
Wastage — the percentage of an ingredient lost in preparation. Added on top of the recipe quantity.
Add-on group — a question the till asks when an item is ordered: spice level, size, extras.
Required choice — an add-on group with minimum 1 and maximum 1. The till blocks the line until it is answered.
PLU — a short code staff can type to find an item quickly.
Kitchen section — which station, and therefore which printer, an item's ticket goes to.
Orders
Order type — Dine In, Take Away or Delivery.
Draft / Booked — an order held back from the kitchen. With a time on it, it is a booking.
Booking — a held order with a Wanted at time. The app counts it down and alerts the till.
Ticket age — how long an order has sat since it last moved. Over 15 minutes it turns red.
Terminal status — Completed or Cancelled. Nothing can be added to an order on either.

Payable — money you owe suppliers.
Balance — a party's net position: receivable minus payable.

Applying a payment — tying money received to the specific bills it clears, rather than just reducing a balance.
Opening balance — what was owed in either direction on the day you started using the app.
Opening stock — what you were holding on that same day.
COGS — cost of goods sold. What the food you sold cost you.
Gross profit — revenue minus COGS, before expenses.
Margin — profit as a percentage of revenue.
Outstanding — still unpaid.
Overdue — outstanding past its due date.

Serial no / Doc no — the number on a document.
Sale — a bill to a customer. Purchase — a bill from a supplier.
