Opening Stock
The count of what you were already holding on the day you started using Eatin POS — and the tool for every stock count after that.
What this screen is for
The app cannot know what was already in your store room. Until you tell it, every dish you sell drives stock negative and your food cost is wrong. This screen fixes that, and is also the right tool for a monthly physical count.

Sidebar → Setup → Opening Stock.
The screen, part by part
New Count
- Reason — a label for this count, e.g. Opening count or Month-end count, March.
Items
Add Item adds a row. Each row has:

| Item | Pick a raw or inventory item. Menu items and deals cannot be counted — they are made, not held |

| In Stock | What the app currently thinks you have |
| Counted | What you actually counted |
| Unit Cost | What one unit costs you |
| Value | Counted × Unit Cost |
Total Value at the bottom is what the count says your store room is worth.
Step by step
The first-ever count
- Walk the store room with a sheet of paper before service.
- Add Item for every raw and inventory item you hold.
- Enter the Counted quantity and the Unit Cost you actually paid.
- Put Opening count in Reason and save.
- Check the Dashboard — Stock Value should now match your total.
A monthly recount
- Count everything physically.
- Add every item and enter the counted figure.
- Compare Counted against In Stock as you go — that gap is your shrinkage.
- Save. The app trusts the count over its own figure.
Good to know
- Unit Cost should be what you paid, not what you charge. Stock is valued at cost everywhere in the app.
- Only raw and inventory items hold stock. A menu item's stock is its ingredients.
- Counting again is normal. This screen is not one-time-only; each count is a document you can find later.
- A large gap between In Stock and Counted usually means missing purchases, missing recipes, or stock used but never written off — see Stock Consumption.
