Printing

Thermal receipts at the counter, tickets in the kitchen, A4 or A5 invoices for anyone who wants paperwork.

In the app: Setup → This Computer → Print Format / Receipt PrinterEvery feature described here is free.

What this screen is for

Eatin POS prints two completely different things, in two different ways:

  • Receipts and kitchen tickets go to a roll printer as raw ESC/POS, through a small helper called QZ Tray. No print dialog, no margins to fight — it just prints.
  • A5 and A4 invoices go through the browser's normal print dialog, to any ordinary printer.

How to get here

Sidebar → Setup, then the This Computer section. These settings live in the browser on the machine you are sitting at.

Choosing a format

Print Format decides what a bill prints as:

FormatHow it printsUse it for
Thermal Receipt (3 inch / 80mm)Raw ESC/POS via QZ TrayThe counter roll printer
A5 Invoice (half page)Browser print dialogA tidy invoice on half a page
A4 Invoice (full page)Browser print dialogFull-page invoices and anything for an accountant

Setting up the receipt printer

The Receipt Printer card:

  1. Refresh — reads the printers QZ Tray can see.
  2. Printer — pick the counter roll printer.
  3. Kitchen ticket printer — leave empty to print tickets on the same printer, or pick the kitchen's own printer.
  4. Receipt style — the layout of the printed receipt.
  5. Save.

About QZ Tray

QZ Tray is a small program that runs on the till computer and lets the browser talk to a printer directly. It must be running for thermal printing to work — if the printer list is empty, QZ Tray is almost always not started.

Careful QZ Tray is per computer. Each till that prints receipts needs it installed and running. The manager's laptop printing A4 invoices does not.

Kitchen tickets

When an order is created, a ticket prints for the kitchen:

  • Items are grouped by Kitchen Section, set per item on Restaurant Menu — so the grill gets grill items and the cold station gets salads.
  • Adding items to an order already sent prints a new ticket with only the new lines, so the kitchen never re-cooks the whole order.
  • The ticket carries the order number, the table or channel, and the time.

  3. Receipt PrinterRefresh → pick the counter printer.

  5. Ring up a test sale and print it.

Reprinting something

Open the document from History and print it from there.

Good to know

  • The printer list is empty? QZ Tray is not running. Start it and press Refresh.
  • Receipt prints but the kitchen ticket does not? The kitchen printer is set but offline; clear the field to fall back to the receipt printer.
  • Items landing on the wrong ticket? Their Kitchen Section is wrong — fix it on the item.
  • A5 and A4 need no QZ Tray at all, which makes them the easy choice for an office machine.
