New Sale — the till
The register. Everything a shift needs is on this one screen: the cart, the menu, the guest, the table, discounts, the kitchen and the money.
What this screen is for
New Sale is where an order is built and money is taken. It opens full-screen without the sidebar, because during service nothing else should be in the way.
One order can end three different ways, and choosing the right ending is the only thing that really matters here:
- Create Order — the kitchen gets the ticket now. The guest is not billed yet.
- Hold order / Book order — the order is parked. The kitchen never sees it until someone sends it.
- Take payment now — bill and settle immediately. Use it for counter sales that need no kitchen ticket, or to close out an order you have already served.
How to get here
Sidebar → Sales → New Sale. During service most people leave this screen open all shift and use the buttons in its own top bar instead of the sidebar.
The top bar
Left to right:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| ← | Leaves the till and goes back to the app |
| New Sale · Register | The heading, with today's date and the current customer underneath |
| + New | Abandons what is in the cart and starts a fresh order — it asks first |
| Orders | Opens the panel of orders still owed to guests. The red badge is how many are open |
| Bookings | Orders held back from the kitchen, including everything booked for later |
| Tables | The floor plan — seat this order at a table, or open what a table already has |
| Customer | Who the bill is for. Defaults to Walk-in Customer |
| + (far right) | Adds a new customer without leaving the till |
The cart — left side
Search bar
"Scan barcode / PLU or search the menu…" — the fastest way to add an item. Scan a barcode, type a PLU number, or type any part of a dish name. A single match is added straight to the cart.
Add Items
Opens the item picker, a full grid of your menu. Inside it:
- Category strip — All, then one chip per category. Tap to filter.
- QTY strip — pick the quantity before tapping the dish:
0.25 · 0.5 · 0.75 · 1 · 2 · 3 · 4 · 5 · 6 · 7, plus Custom… for anything else. The fractions are for items sold by weight. - Product grid — name, category and price on each card. Tap to add.
- Items with no stock are dimmed and cannot be tapped. Low stock shows a small badge.
- An item with no recipe is flagged, because the till cannot work out its cost.
If the dish has add-on groups, a choices window opens on tap — spice level, size, extra cheese. Required choices must be answered before the line can be added. See Recipes & add-ons.
The cart table
One row per line, with these columns:
| Column | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Item | The dish name, with its chosen add-ons listed underneath |
| Rate | Editable. Override the menu price for this line only |
| Qty | − and +, or type. Fractions allowed on items sold by weight |
| Unit | The unit the line is priced in (Kg, Piece, Plate…) |
| Discount | A money amount off this line |
| Total | Rate × Qty − discount |
| 🗑 | Removes the line; it asks first |
Clear at the top right of the cart empties every line at once.
The order panel — right side
Order type
Three tabs: Dine In · Take Away · Delivery. The fields underneath change with the choice.
- Dine In shows TABLE and GUESTS. Only a dine-in order can be seated.
- Take Away can issue a token number, if that is switched on in Settings.
- Delivery shows DELIVERY ADDRESS, and adds the delivery charge set in Settings.
Wanted at
"Now — or pick a day and time." Leave it empty for right now. Put a date and time in it and the order becomes a booking: the Hold order button changes to Book order, and the kitchen will not see it until it is sent. The Bookings screen counts it down and alerts the till when it is due.
The totals block
- Subtotal (n) — the sum of the lines, with the line count in brackets
- Item discounts — everything taken off individual lines
- Invoice discount — type an amount here to take it off the whole bill
- Total Due — the amount the guest owes, in large ember type, with a Paid / Partial / Unpaid tag beside it
The four buttons
- Create Order — sends the ticket to the kitchen and prints it. Green when the cart is ready. The guest is not billed; settle it later from Orders.
- Hold order / Book order — parks the order without telling the kitchen. It appears under Bookings.
- Clear order — empties the cart. Asks first.
- Take payment now — opens checkout and settles the bill in one go.
Checkout
Take payment now opens the Checkout window:
- Total Due at the top.
- Amount received with a numeric keypad, plus two shortcuts: Full (the whole amount) and Pending (nothing now — the bill goes on the customer's khata).
- Balance due or Change is worked out live as you type.
- PAYMENT — Cash or Bank.
- BANK — which account the money landed in. Only appears when Bank is chosen.
Confirm and the sale is saved, the receipt prints, the stock comes down and the customer's balance updates.
Step by step
A normal dine-in table
- Press Tables and tap a free table — or choose it in the TABLE dropdown.
- Set GUESTS.
- Add Items, tap through the order, close the picker.
- Press Create Order. The kitchen ticket prints.
- When the guests are finished, open Orders, find the ticket and settle it.
A quick counter sale
- Leave the type on Take Away.
- Scan or search the items straight into the cart.
- Press Take payment now → Full → Cash → confirm.
Putting a bill on someone's khata
- Choose the guest in Customer (or + to add them).
- Build the order as normal.
- Take payment now → Pending, or type a part payment.
- The unpaid amount now sits on their account — see Accounts.
Taking a booking for tonight
- Choose the customer and build the order.
- Put the time in WANTED AT.
- Press Book order.
- It waits under Bookings and the till is alerted before it is due.
Good to know
- Create Order does not bill anyone. This is the single most common misunderstanding. The bill is settled from the Orders screen when the guests are done.
- Editing a booking replaces it. Loading a booking back into the till and saving creates a new order; the old one stays on the Bookings screen until you cancel it there.
- Rate overrides are per line. Changing Rate in the cart never changes the menu price. Change that on Restaurant Menu.
- An order at a terminal status cannot be changed. Once completed or cancelled, nothing more can be added.
- Service charge is added automatically if it is enabled in Settings, and can be waived per bill when the order is settled.
