Restaurant Menu
The item master. Everything you buy, cook, bundle or sell is defined here — and this is what the till reads from.
What this screen is for
One list holds four different kinds of thing, and knowing which is which is the single most important idea in the app:
| Type | What it is | Sold at the till? | Holds stock? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raw | An ingredient you buy — chicken, flour, oil | No | Yes |
| Inventory | Bought and sold untouched — a bottled drink | Yes | Yes |
| Menu | A dish you cook, made of raw items via a recipe | Yes | Through its recipe |
| Deal | A bundle of menu and inventory items at one price | Yes | Through its parts |
The short version: raw goes in, menu comes out, inventory passes straight through, and a deal is several of the others sold together.
How to get here
Sidebar → Manage → Restaurant Menu.
The screen, part by part
Filters and search
- All Categories — narrow to one menu section.
- Search by name, barcode or PLU.
- The three icon buttons at the top right open Manage Categories, Manage Units and Manage Add-on Groups.
The table
| Column | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Name | The item. An Incomplete tag means the recipe is empty and the till must not sell it yet |
| Type | Raw, Inventory, Menu or Deal |
| Category | Its menu section |
| Price | What you sell it for |
| Cost | What it costs you — typed in for raw and inventory, calculated from the recipe for menu and deals |
| Section | Which kitchen section prints its ticket |
| Available | A switch. Off hides it from the till without deleting it |
Actions: Edit, the recipe button (Recipe & add-ons) and Delete.
Adding an item
Press Add Item. The form changes depending on the Type you pick first.
Always shown
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Type | Pick this first — it decides the rest of the form |
| Category | Choose one, or type a new one right here |
| Name | Required |
| Unit | Kg, Each, Plate, Bottle |
| Sale Price | What the guest pays |
| Quantity | Whether fractional quantities are allowed — turn on for anything sold by weight |
Raw and inventory items also get
- Cost Price — what you pay for one unit
- Opening Stock — how many you hold right now
- Low Stock Alert — the level that counts as running out; it feeds Low Stock on the Dashboard
Menu items and deals instead show
- Cost (from recipe) — read-only, worked out from the parts. Build it on the Recipes & add-ons screen.
Optional extras
- Barcode — scan straight into the till
- PLU Code — a short code staff can type, e.g.
ZB1 - Kitchen Section — which printer the ticket goes to, e.g.
Grill - Sort Order — position in the till's grid; lower comes first
- Description — a short note
Categories, units and add-on groups
Three small managers, reached from the icons at the top:
- Manage Categories — name and description. These are the chips along the top of the till's item picker.
- Manage Units — name and unit value, e.g.
Kg,Each,Bottle. - Manage Add-on Groups — see Recipes & add-ons.
Step by step
Putting a new dish on the menu
- Add Item → Type Menu.
- Name, category, unit, sale price. Save.
- Open its recipe and add the raw ingredients with quantities.
- Check the Cost column filled in and the Incomplete tag has gone.
- Turn Available on.
Adding a bottled drink
- Add Item → Type Inventory.
- Name, unit
Bottle, sale price, cost price, opening stock, low stock alert. Save. No recipe needed.
Taking something off the menu for a day
Flip Available off. It disappears from the till and comes back the moment you flip it on. Do not delete it — deleting loses its history.
Good to know
- An item with an empty recipe is flagged, not blocked. The till warns you, because selling it means the app cannot know what it cost or what stock to reduce.
- Cost is never guessed. For menu items it is the sum of the recipe. Change an ingredient's cost and every dish using it re-costs itself.
- Raw items never appear at the till. If a staff member cannot find something in the item picker, it is almost always typed as raw when it should be inventory.
- Sort Order and Category together decide what the till grid looks like — put your best sellers first.
